I am a Data Science Master's candidate dedicated to using data visualization to drive social and environmental impact. My technical focus is on cleaning messy datasets and building intuitive visualizations using R and Python to make complex metrics accessible to stakeholders.

Currently, I am applying these skills to local issues, analyzing seismic safety data for Portland schools, modeling environmental factors affecting salmon conservation, and creating ethical data governance guidance for small and medium-sized businesses.

Sustainability Data Analytics Internship — KEEN

Developing data-visualization dashboards to track and manage social and environmental impact metrics across the KEEN Effect portfolio.

As a Corporate Sustainability Data Intern (KEENtern) on the KEEN Effect team, I work alongside industry experts to measure, organize, and manage supply chain and product data. My role focuses heavily on bringing structural visibility to messy datasets sourced across multiple organizational branches.

My essential responsibilities include building robust data-visualization tools and interactive dashboards to monitor key impact pillars, such as climate initiatives, circularity metrics, and green chemistry. By cleaning complex, disparate datasets and translating them into intuitive visual frameworks, I help shepherd KEEN's corporate values into clear, actionable progress tracking for internal and external stakeholders.

Guide to Creating a Data Governance Program

A scalable organizational framework designed to help businesses implement ethical and structured data governance practices.

This framework was developed for the Data Ethics, Privacy, and Humans course as part of my Master of Science in Data Science program at Willamette University. It serves as a comprehensive roadmap for organizations of varying sizes and domains looking to establish an effective data governance strategy from the ground up.

Co-authored as a collaborative project, the guide breaks down the data governance lifecycle into four distinct, actionable phases: Engagement (defining the 'why'), Strategy (aligning the 'what'), Architecture & Design (structuring the 'how'), and Implementation (putting governance into active practice). The resulting framework offers business stakeholders a clear path to managing data assets responsibly and ethically.

Influence of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation on Salmon Smolts

A climate and ecological data study modeling the long-term correlation between the PDO index and regional salmon populations.

This project was built for the Python for Data Science course during my graduate studies at Willamette University. The goal of the research was to investigate how large-scale, long-term climate variations—specifically the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO)—impact the health and migration patterns of salmon smolts.

As a solo analysis, I aggregated and processed historical climate metrics and environmental datasets. Utilizing Python libraries like Pandas for data manipulation and Seaborn for advanced data visualization, I constructed time-series models to isolate ecological trends. The resulting visualizations effectively translate complex climate indices into accessible insights to support ongoing regional conservation discussions.

Veronaut

An online shopping resource that highlights supply-chain transparency for fashion products. Solo project.

Veronaut was created in 2020 as the capstone project for my Bloc (now Thinkful) Full-Stack Engineering bootcamp. The requirements for my capstone project were to create a responsive, full-stack app using React.js, CSS, Node.js, Express, and PostgreSQL. This was a solo project which I completed with occasional help from a mentor.

The early vision of this app resulted from my professional background. Before I joined a software engineering bootcamp, I earned a biology degree with a focus on environmental conservation and additional studies in economics, conducted research of smallholder cotton farms in Peru, and founded a mission-based clothing brand, Silvania. My background in the fashion industry, as well as my personal experience shopping for clothes, has led me to see that finding sustainably-made clothing as a consumer is unnecessarily cumbersome.

Chivolo

A kids' video app that features shows with racially-diverse main characters.

Chivolo was created in 2019 as project for my Bloc (now Thinkful) Full-Stack Engineering bootcamp. The requirements for the project were to create a responsive app using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and a public API of my choice. I chose to use the YouTube Data API. This was a solo project which I completed with occasional help from a mentor.

In 2019, my then-four-years-old stepdaughter's favorite app was the YouTube Kids app. I regularly reviewed my stepdaughter's viewing history on the app to see what kinds of content she had seen. I found that very few videos in the app featured characters of color. When characters of color were present, they were often secondary characters who merely supported the main character's story line.

In response, I created a video app for kids, like YouTube Kids, with videos that star characters of color. I sourced content from the YouTube Data API to provide kids with videos that center BIPOC characters. I hope Chivolo acts as a complement to white-main-character-dominated video apps like YouTube Kids to help children form positive associations with people of all races.
